September 30 | Bridal Falls Fly-In | clearing, standard lapse rate forecast | 0% Sunday | 160° at 9 knots | Sumas Report - only Rob P and I flew Sumas because it looked weird. Thermals came up the front of launch, followed by down cycles, with the clouds overhead moving from the west? Some small thermals but mostly a bouyant ride down to the LZ - Jim Bridal Report - the fly-in continued at Upper and Lower launches. Lots of American pilots and even some hangies showed up from Aerial Adventures. Everyone convened at the Club House for steaks. Some reports of a European acro-pilot attemting a low level SAT that nearly bounced, getting the wing back flying at 100 feet! September 29

| Brial Report - we were ever watchful of the jet stream touching down at Bridal . . . but everyone flew and had smooth flights. Some interesting landings (replace your divots), and the fence may need reinforcing after this weekend! About 20 pilots flew from Upper Launch with a shuttle service that involved a 15 minute hike over the decommissioned roadbed. Party at the Club House went on 'til 12:00 am, some of us camped at Lower Launch and had to fly down due to a hangover caused by some bad Ice. The Suburban broke a leg on the way down and had to get towed to Chilliwack, should be driving by the weekend - Jim

| Hemlock Report - Alex R had the flight of the day with over an hour gaining 500 meters over launch on an APCO Allegra, I launched in cross conditions for an extended sled ride after he landed - Jim | Chelan Report - Norm made it home last night and had a great time, he was a dot in the sky, so he did have a great time soaring. He even made the spot landing perfectly. So he was really glad he went, he said he hung out with the Americans. Also Kevin Ault was there and Brent showed up later. So Norm had the better flying than the rest of us it seems. I had a nice sledder from Bridal Upper launch, everything was well organized. That launch is sooo sweet. I did a forward off and all went well in light condition. But I had a good time, everyone else also ahd a great time off of there but again it was just a longer sledder - Bev September 22

| A black day for all humanity, I woke up early in Chicago and clicked on the TV to see the first pictures of the World Trade Center being transmitted. At first it looked like an accident, witnesses thought it was a small twin engine Cessna at first. Horrified I witnessed the live video of the second plane hitting the other tower and knew we were watching a war unfold. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Free flight is banned until further notice!

| Chelan Report - Saturday we had one flight early in the morning before the Butte got blown out, then a marathon drive to Saddle Mountain to watch it get blown out. | Sunday morning we had an unfortunate incident where one of our students lost control of his wing near the Butte and headed out very low and ultimately sunk behind a ridge and got rotored and he impacted the side hill injuring his back. A paramedic team was on scene within 20 minutes and he was airlifted to Wenatchee Hospital, where he was operated on for a fractured T12. He was in stable condition when I left the hospital on Monday afternoon. Special thanks go out to Ian Johnston and JF Paradis who sidehill landed to give aid as they were in the air at the time of the incident. Thanks also to everyone who helped coordinate the rescue. It was a very stressful event for all. |
