Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Sunny. Becoming a mix of sun and cloud near noon. High 10. UV index 3 or moderate. 1000 metres Trick or Treat - it is a hard trick to takeoff 90 degrees from the fall-line of the slope and fly into the trees on the North Side of Launch but an un-named pilot with 34 flights under his belt did it. Wing was nicely stuck in three big trees but he was unhurt and he climbed down. 10-30-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Sunny. High 13. UV index 3 or moderate. 1000 metres I was driving back from Sun Peaks where it was -13C this morning and arrived late to hear the gloat reports. Martin N top-landed after 3 hours to drive Derek's truck down. Bev said even though she had electric-heated gloves she froze. Robert R flew Benny and also had a great flight. October is finally delivering after so much wet weather. 10-28-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Sunny. High 13. UV index 3 or moderate. 1000 metres A lot of pilots turned out and there were 15 pilots on launch by noon, with a few hiking in. Great launches by some of my former students and they flew high and far. Most made it to Dewdney Peak and back to the parking area. Martin N made it almost back to Eagle Ranch. I launched last after multiple attmpts to get a Taksa in the air, it was either out of trim or I am super rusty from too many tandem flights on an easy launching SwiftMax! I boated across the Gap to Gregory and climbed out below Tom Gregg and has getting up to the peaks when I remembered I had to be back at the Ranch to deliver some gear to a student. I headed out to the Horse LZ and it took forever to cut through the lift and descend into the pasture. Derek was driving Hammer's truck down and met me at the road and we were off chasing Martin N. We caught up to him near Harrison Bay but he was still working the lift there at 300 metres. He did make it across the Bay but was something like a kilometer away from his car so Derek picked him up. A great soaring day for late October! Some hardy individuals hiked up Cypress Bowl and flew north to Brunswick Bay and back to West Vancouver. 10-26-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Clearing in the afternoon. High 16. UV index 2 or low. 1200 metres Meanwhile a group of dedicated fliers descended on Woodside and had great flights. Noteable was Alex R who flew from Woodside west towards Ruskin Dam. Many others had great cloud surfing flights. 10-13-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Cloudy. 70 percent chance of showers late this morning and early this afternoon then 30 percent chance of showers this afternoon. High 14. UV index 2 or low. 1000 metres Red sky at night, sailors' delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning. The rhyme is a rule of thumb used for weather forecasting during the past two millennia. It is based on the reddish glow of the morning or evening sky, caused by haze or clouds related to storms in the region. If the morning skies are red, it is because clear skies over the horizon to the east permit the sun to light the undersides of moisture-bearing clouds. The saying assumes that more such clouds are coming in from the west. Conversely, in order to see red clouds in the evening, sunlight must have a clear path from the west, so therefore the prevailing westerly wind must be bringing clear skies. 10-11-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Sunny. High 16. UV index 4 or moderate. 1000 metres Wout and Martin Z were here. Martin has 30 flights now and is signed off but keen to still fly with instruction and others showing him the way. Wout flew 4 flights today and conditions were lame but he had some great progress with launches and landings. He is now up to 9 flights but has a transportation problem getting out from the city. Martin N, Tom C and Derek arrived later and joined in the fun. Tom C was the "Sky Pig" today getting an hour stuck at 500 metres near the South Knoll and landing in Riverside. Here are the 2 Martins flying near 3 pm, looking for lift. Note the inverted sky. 10-10-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Sunny. High 17. UV index 4 or moderate. 1000 metres We spent the morning on the Eagle Ranch Training Hill and the conditions were perfect for Ken. Ken had been working hard on the ground handling with Tony last week and was now ready to fly! We got two flights in before Ken called it as he was tired. Derek came up with us and managed to climb out in the light conditions and he got to 1100 metres for some time. 10-09-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Sunny. Windy this morning. High 12. UV index 4 or moderate. 1000 metres Derek and I did go up after 4 pm but we decided the risk was not worth the small reward as it was quite leeside. 10-08-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Rain. Becoming windy this afternoon. High 15. UV index 1 or low. 200 metres But by 3 pm Derek came over and we drove to the top hoping to beat the outflow but we were an hour too late. Lots of snow on Woodside Launch, but a lot more on Mt. Cheam and higher peaks. The views were amazing but it was not worth the risk waiting for a lull and the cycles got weaker as the clouds rolled in. 10-07-19

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers this morning. Clearing this afternoon. High 15. UV index 2 or low. 900 metres Colleen & I got to try the new NOVA Doubleskins today. I was flying the Doubleskin 20 (good to 105 kgs) and she was on the Doubleskin 17 (A rated from 55-90 kgs). I launched first and got to soar around with Martin N and Claudia for about an hour practicing top landing approaches but only got within 6 feet once, as there was a boomer thermal right south of launch. Colleen launched after me and thermalled around for a while but was not enjoying her ride (maybe too lightly loaded for the bullet thermal that were out front). She hung in for some time before heading out to the Ranch. Nice looking wing with normal skinny risers and very small lower lines. Big brake handles for big mitts like I had on today. I did some speed runs following Martin on his Ozone Swift 5 Large and I was the same or slightly faster off bar. I had a nice hour long flight and then headed out to the Ranch and passed a student on a NOVA Prion4 like he was standing still. Really good trim speed at 105 kgs! Landing was exciting as I got hit with a blast of tailwind on final and I stalled the Doubleskin from about 8 feet and it was very predictable as to when it would fall back, may be a good top-lander. After 5:30 pm I went up to take Endre from Seattle for a birthday tandem and we had a beautiful flight in glass-off conditions and it was cold in the air (flight suit time). UV index 3 or moderate. 1000 metres Tony had just one student and they were ground-handling at Eagle Ranch and then in Mission. No one flew Woodside but the pros have been flying Benny and getting up to 1800 metres. Here is a shot of Robert R on his new Ozone Swift5 at 1800 metres (all bundled up). Last month the PWC crew was in Brazil and Brett was representing Canada on his Gin Boomerang 11. He got some great footage and made a nice video for all of you.
