Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Rain. High 10. 800 metres 11-26-18
|
| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Rain. High 10. 800 metres But we got some video from the last day that Kyle & James flew on their graduation flights. 11-24-18
|
| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Cloudy. 30 percent chance of showers early this morning. Fog patches dissipating this morning. High 7. UV index 1 or low. 800 metres We waited til 1 pm and it finally cycled up enough for Colleen to launch. Then Chris & Sebastian took off in short order. 11-24-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Cloudy with 40 percent chance of showers. Fog patches dissipating this morning. High 8. UV index 1 or low. 800 metres Then we went flying to celebrate their 31st flights and graduation to Novice Pilots. Both are becoming well-rounded pilots able to launch in most conditions with style and grace. This Ozone Buzz Z4 ML that Kyle is flying is for sale with about 10 flights on it now. Elk Report - Not sure if ya’ll got up flying at Woodside today but Marshall and I were able to get our first flight in at Elk mountain. Here’s a few pictures of that if you are curious of the conditions. Little wind on launch so it was a forward launch, and freezing cold in the air! This wintery flying is a different beast for sure. We were both frozen so we didn’t try to stay up, but the building clouds gave lift and if we were well padded for winter I would think we could’ve stayed up for a while. As it was this was a little over a 20min flight with no attempts made to stay up. 11-21-18 to 11-23-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Cloudy. Rain beginning this morning. Amount 5 to 10 mm. Windy. High 7. 600 metres 11-20-18
|
| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Sunny. High 10C. Winds NE 5-10 kph. 800 metres They are both around the 18 flight mark, and Dennie was managing them as I was dealing with a construction issue. Mark, Michael & Martin N flew the first flight at 1 pm, in light winds. Martin went home and it was just the two students flying the second flight. I was going to take Chris' daughter tandem again as she was very hapy after the first flight and we went up at 3 pm to find strong outflow winds on launch afte the sun got blocked out by incoming clouds. We waited til 4:15 pm but it never abated so down the hill in the Bus. Thanks to Dennie for the great coaching today! 11-19-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Sunny. High 10C. Winds light and variable. 800 metres Martin N, Derek, Harald and I were going to go flying but I offered up my driving skills as it looked like a sled ride. Harald was flying his new SupAir Leaf Light and did some great reverse launches in light winds. Martin & Derek were "duking it out" trying to see who could stay in the air the longest but it was so light that they were fighting over whose 10:15 flight was the longest. I was later tied up moving furniture with Derek & Martin's help and a neighbours tractor which was the most dangerous activity today for me (readying the house for XMAS). 11-18-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Sunny. High 10C. Winds NE 10-15 kph. 800 metres Perfect conditions with 15-20 kph NE winds all day and soarable for everyone. The only person landing at the bottom was Artem flying a slightly overloaded Icaro Wildcat, and not under guidance as he is a P-2. We had Harald, Mark, Kalina, Kyle and Artem flying all day long til 2:30 pm when we headed back to Vancouver after 5 hours of soaring and training. I even got to fly the Ozone Mojo 3 M (also slightly overloaded) and did a couple of flights top-landing each time. Mark was not flying his new Ozone Rush 4 XL as it was a bit too strong for him so we had him on the Geo 2 L instead and Artem took the Rush 4 XL out for a few soaring flights so he could make up for landing at the bottom five times. Kyle was flying with a GoPro can got some good shots today! 11-17-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Sunny. High 10C. Winds NE 10-15 kph. 800 metres We arrived at noon and the Dump Ridge was working and Kyle took off and started soaring on his new Ozone Geo 4. Kyle top landed and was getting ready to go again as I clipped into the Ozone Atom 3 Small and got dragged across the flats as it picked up fast. I bunched up the Atom 3 and told everyone to pack up and we headed to Coyote Hill. We arrived there to find light winds and the guys got two flights there landing amongst the bulls. 11-16-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Sunny. High 10C. Winds NE 10-15 kph. 800 metres It was a good call as the winds were 10-20 kph from the NE and cycling right up the slope. By the end of the day Lucas & Harald had done at least a dozen flights and were getting really good at controlling the wings. When we got back to the Ranch at 4 pm, it was still too strong to kite. 11-15-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: PM Showers. High 11C. Winds light and variable. 800 metres 11-13-18
|
| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: PM Showers. High 11C. Winds light and variable. 800 metres I flew Chris M's 4.5 year old daughter tandem and we only got a few passes and headed out to land while Kevin & Claudia got higher. Newly signed off pilot Lucas launched last around 330 pm and went straight up to 1100 metres where he found it quite windy, so full bar out to the Ranch and still going up with "big ears". 11-12-18
|
| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Sunny. High 12C. Winds NNE at 10 to 15 km/h. 800 metres It was a good call as Lucas and Martin N bagged one flight at 2 pm, with very light launch cycles. Lucas also had time to write his P-2 Exam, a final step towards certification. Reports from students Harald & Kyle who camped at Savona said the winds were way too strong to fly all day. 11-11-18
|
| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Partly cloudy. High 12C. Winds NNE at 10 to 15 km/h. 800 metres Apparently the ranchers are tired of people chewing up the hillsides in quads and motorcycles? We did gain access by begging and got to launch to find it calm and cross but Kyle, Lucas, Mike and James all flew off twice before we headed to Savona. Savona has the advantage of a short hike up the Dump Ridge for multiple flights and the Kamloops windtalker was showing 7-10 k of east wind. We arrived at 230 pm, to find +25 kph of wind and no one had to hike up because it was soarable and top-landable til dark! Here Kyle and Lucas are soaring together with ease. Perfect launching conditions and cold, dense air made soaring easy. Everyone got to soar and practice high wind kiting. Mike got his first Savona flight and did a top-landing too. Mike's friend Alex arrived today for his first day of kiting and was able to reverse kite and reverse launch by the end of the day. He also kited forward for 2-3 minutes with little help from me! By the end of day Kyle had 7 Savona flights and 2 Coyote flights and is flying very well. Lucas lost track of his Savona flights but he was at 25 flights at Coyote as was James. Today was a big graduation day for them. 11-10-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Partly cloudy. High 12C. Winds NNE at 10 to 15 km/h. 800 metres We started launching at noon and the students had great first flights with some light thermals. The second flights at 1 pm were even better with up to an hour of soaring. The local pros were out and enjoying up to 2 hours of thermalling up to 980 metres. We went up just after 2 pm for a set of 3 tandems but we were denied as it started to blow down the mountain. We did wait for about 40 minutes but it just never happened. 11-9-18
|
| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Periods of rain ending near noon then cloudy with 40 percent chance of drizzle. High plus 5. UV index 1 or low. 600 metres 11-8-18
|
| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Showers Early. Low 4C. Winds NNE at 10 to 15 km/h. 900 metres Derek, Andrei, Shaun G and Blake went up and had a tough fight to stay up more than 30 minutes. At least Shaun got to fly his new Gin Explorer! I was working with the carpenter on decks and such and could not come flying with the boys. Andrei helped retrieve Derek's truck and Blake & Shaun got one more flight to cap off the day. 11-8-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: Sunny. High 9C. Winds NW at 10 to 15 km/h. 900 metres I sent Lucas out with the 14 metre Speedwing to kite, as it was too strong for a full sized wing. Amin & Sean arrived at 1 pm and they were kiting regular wings by then. We had two tandems to do and Brad and I got the gear ready and we loaded up the loaner Transit Van and we were on top by 2 pm. Some up cycles but mostly leeside conditions. The Eagles were soaring in smooth thermals though! Amin launched on his brand new Gin Bonanza 2 and started climbing. Brad launched with Meilana and they were thermalling in front of launch. Derek was next followed by Lucas & Sean, and everyone was soaring around. I got my tandem set up and all we had was downcycles for about 15 minutes. But we got a puff and we were off and soaring too. I headed straight out to the Valley where Derek was still soaring around with some eagles. We had a magical flight and we could fly anywhere in the valley as it was no wind and lifty everywhere. Some of the thermals were quite punchy too. But short-lived. We set up for a west wind approach, odd for Eagle Ranch but it was outflow. After we landed we heard from Kevin who was up on launch and waiting for cycles. He did get off with a forward launch but missed the good valley lift as the sun sets fast these days. 11-6-18

| Woodside Forecast Harrison Mills Forecast: 40% Precip. / 6.27 mm Showers. High 11C. Winds light and variable. 700 metres Lucas arrived and exclaimed that he could see launch, so we prepared and headed up the hill around 4 pm. Low cloudbase behind launch but launch was open. We got Lucas ready and there were launchable lulls that lasted 2 - 3 minutes! Perfect! Lucas was off and soaring but went too far north for the strength of the wind so we focussed on staying upwind and he climbed high with ease even further out. I drove down and was able to watch Lucas' approach as it was very buoyant. 11-5-18
