Winds WSW at 10 to 15 km/h 1750 metres I was doing launch prep work in Manzanillo today, and Tapalpa looks stunning if the inversion breaks today. Meanwhile Paddy, Peter and Claudia are having great flights in Valle de Bravo, all making it to the Lakeside LZ! Derek is there too but no SPOT to spy on. 11-26-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Rain. Amount 20 to 30 mm. Becoming windy late this morning. High 11 with temperature falling to 8 this afternoon. 350 metres I went to the WCSC Meeting tonight to fight to keep the dues at $50 but failed so there is an increase to $80 effective immediately. Congratulations to Kim Mattinson on winning the WCSC "Rookie of the Year" award . . . she was one of our keenest students this spring as she wanted to get certified fast to start chasing Hubby Mike around the valley! 11-22-17 to 11-25-17

New Ultralight Instructor Licence in hand and ready to start training you Ultralight Pilots next spring, come for a briefing on what you need to do to get certified to fly an Ultralight or paramotor. Actually easier than a P-2 Course! 11-16-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Showers. Risk of hail early this afternoon. High 9. 800 metres Brian's first and graduation flight (#25) was on the windy side but he had a Plan B in mind (Harvest), but he did not need it as he had a classic flight out to Eagle Ranch. Martin joined us for flight #2 and they both got some soaring in. Then at 3 pm it started to drizzle, but a much better day than forecasted. 11-15-17
|
| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Cloudy. Periods of rain beginning this morning. Amount 5 to 10 mm. High 8. 600 metres It was not that wet but clouds were low and it was windy, good time to re-seed the parking lot so it will be closed til spring as the grass takes hold. 11-14-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Showers. Amount 10 to 15 mm. Wind becoming southwest 40 to 60 km/h late this afternoon. Temperature steady near 8. 400 metres BC Ferries cancelled all sailings for the morning causing some issues for Islanders. It was raining heavily here most of the day and windy later. 11-12-17

|
| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Cloudy. 60 percent chance of showers this afternoon. High 7. Savona Forecast: Mainly cloudy. Wind becoming east 20 km/h near noon. High 6. 1250 metres Hwy 5 was clear and foggy in places and we arrived at Savona at 11 am to find East wind as forecasted, but it was too strong for even a 16 metre speedwing! Ashcroft was reporting light winds so we headed to Coyote where it was snowy and indeed light winds from the SW. We set up on the NW facing ridge that faces Cornwall and Brian had a nice launch and it was very buoyant air allowing him to make a few different approaches. Blake flew off after Brian as I drove down. We repeated this one more flight until is got too cross from the SW. I checked the Kamloops METAR and it reported 13 kph from the NE so perfect for Savona, and we headed back there to find it was even stronger that at noon? As we headed back towards home we encountered snow showers but the drive home on Hwy 1 was good except for the zero visibilty in fog near Boston Bar. 11-10-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Mostly Sunny. High around 10C. Winds light and variable 850 metres It was soarable with light thermals and Jacek logged 25 minutes ending up in Riverside. Blake & Paul arrived too late for that ride so they hopped in when I took Andrei up to retrieve his truck and they had a nice flight in almost soarable winds. Here is what the mountain looked like around 4 pm, as cloudbase was starting to lower. 11-9-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Cloudy. 30 percent chance of flurries or rain showers changing to 30 percent chance of rain showers this morning. Windy. High plus 5. 600 metres It actually turned out great for installing doors on the hangar as there was no wind and only the odd sprinkle of rain. The doors work great and I can now lock up the Hangar for the winter keeping all the farm implements safe from rain and thieves. Thanks to Andrei for providing the sheet metal left over from his house build. 11-8-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Cloudy. 30 percent chance of flurries or rain showers changing to 30 percent chance of rain showers this morning. Windy. High plus 5. 600 metres I got the tracks and frames installed using the new excavator, great for precision placement of heavy objects. The wind was so strong that the step-ladder kept falling over, but only when I was not on it. Thankfully! I installed one steel panel but it was dangerous in the strong wind so I quit just as it was getting dark. Smart money is on heading to Mexico, as Bev & Norm headed south today. 11-7-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Cloudy. 40 percent chance of flurries or rain showers late this afternoon. Windy. High plus 3. 800 metres I met Clark & Peter at Diefenbaker Park and they did very well despite gusty East winds. They had the forward launches mastered within about 5 flights, so I showed them the "A's&C's method" of reverse launching and they did amazing! After three hours it was time for lunch and a debrief and they are now ready for a bigger hill, maybe Monday in Savona. 11-6-17
|
| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Sunny. High around 5C. Winds N at 10 to 15 km/h. 800 metres I was in Surrey for errands and visited King George Airpark for some paperwork duties and there was light east winds there for a Rans S12 doing circuits. I headed back to the Ranch to install some posts for the hangar doors before dark and Derek & Martin headed up to Woodside cause they saw the smoke from the slash burning was going up the hill. I decided to stay and work on my project and saw Martin get a 10:11 flight but Derek had a couple of duffs and then it was blowing down hard so he drove down. He reported that the road was less icy today. Martin landed to the west in the ProCircle as I finished up the post install. It sure gets dark soon with PST back in place! 11-5-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Mainly cloudy. 40 percent chance of light snow this morning. Wind northeast 40 to 60 km/h. High plus 3. 800 metres 11-4-17
|
| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Cloudy. High 3C. Winds NNE at 10 to 15 km/h. 800 metres There was NE wind in Agassiz and Hope, but normal SE wind at the Ranch LZ and the webcam showed light inflow too. The drive up was exciting as there are icy patches at 2.5 k, 3 k, and 4 k and you need good snow tires. We parked at the top of the hill and walked in to find light cycles so Brian got ready. It was snowing lightly at launch so you could see the winds. Chilliwack had a big bank of snow overhead, as did Hemlock Valley, but it was good visibility from Launch to the Ranch as Brian flew off on his SupAir Leaf Light glider test flying the Ozone Ozium2 harness. If you zoom in you can see I tagged his name just above him as he flew out towards the River. He said it got bumpy over the Highlands but smooth over the Ranch as he landed in the newly leveled LZ. The bulldozer work is now completed and we are hoping to get some seed down if it warms up. Brian wrote his P-2 exam and aced it with 95% marks! Just three more flights and he can be set free from the nest! Jacke & Monica arrived to setup harnesses but it was snowing heavily and we could not see launch anymore. Hmmm . . . Zeno or Delta3 for Mexico this year? Ozone Delta 3 from Ozone Paragliders on Vimeo. 11-3-17
|
| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Partly Cloudy. High around 5C. Winds NNE at 15 to 30 km/h. 800 metres But the good news is that the bulldozer is working again and the LZ leveling should be completed this weekend, good progress made yesterday. 11-2-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: Rain. A few wet flurries over higher terrain this afternoon. Becoming windy near noon. Temperature falling to plus 3 this afternoon. 600 metres Good indoor session with Clark & Peter, our latest students that we hope to get airborne before the end of November. I went in to Chilliwack at 4 pm to do some banking and the snowstorm hit there first. And it stuck on the roads and the sidewalks. Slow going back to the Ranch as folks were not used to slick roads, and I came home to this. High winds from the NW and the snow fell all night. 11-1-17

| Agassiz BC Woodside Forecast: A few showers ending this morning then cloudy with 30 percent chance of showers. Windy early this morning. High 10. 600 metres Derek, Martin, Norm & Bev drove up through the clouds and launched when it was open. Derek reported an awesome 12 minues of flight time, amazing given to morning forecast but it is Mother Woodside! On the drive back up the mountain to retrieve Bev's rig, it had closed in again at the 3 km mark as the temps dropped and cloudbase lowered. 2016 in Review - we had our busiest season every in 20 years! Thanks to all of you that supported us in 2016! We started out in January with our biggest Mexican Tour with many guests improving their skills at El Toro, Pelican Bay Soaring Site, Colima and Tapalpa. February brought us more Tour guests with me returning to Canada on March 1 to start lessons. March brought on some great spring conditions with some excellent XC flights in the Faser Valley. April brought out many new student pilots and we had up to 7 per day requiring some additional manpower to help out with Degas in Mission with newbies while I was sending students off Woodside. April enjoyed the first tree-landing of the season as an un-named P-2 pilot 360ed himself into a 200' tree just before dark. May brought out many pilots doing XC flights from Benny to Woodside. This site was improved in 2016 with WCSC & BCHPA funds so we are going to take advancing students there in 2017. We also ran our Annual FlyBC Instructor Course and had many new candidates working with our students. We had to go to Coyote & Mara many times to avoid the weather. June was an awesome month and we had many signed off P-2 students by now. Thanks to all who helped us get them through their courses! July was a productive month but also brought some sad news as a local Bellingham Pilot who had flown Blanchard hundreds of times had a fatal crash while paragliding on a mellow day. TJ had been flying since 2000 and had created a Weather Page that was very useful in predicting the conditions. August took us to Mara Lake for our Annual SIV Course and we had 25 participants over 10 days with only a few wet wings. Either we are getting better at guiding, or the gliders are getting safer, or the pilots are doing more studying prior to the Course . . . or all three but it is a pleasure to put pilots through the maneuvers and see them cain confidence in their gear. September was flyable most days but we did do the odd road trip to Merritt and Coyote. I think we are up to 200 flyable days now. We also had one weekend closed to students and pilots at Eagle Ranch while we married off Aaron & Christy! October turned out to be a complete bust as it rained everyday, as did November. Odd as this is usually our busiest training time. It was okay because we had planned a trip to Australia anyway, but I felt bad for the students that did not get finished in 2016. December was also bad weather-wise with record snow falls, so I went to Mexico to get our winter condo ready for the winter season, and Derek & Norm & I had some nice flights. Thanks again to the 40+ students we signed off in 2016. Thanks also to the pilots that bought a record number of gliders from Gin, Ozone & SupAir from us in 2016. Stay safe in 2017, and we will be here to support you in your flying endeavours. |
