November 30 Sumas or Eagle Early morning fog patches otherwise sunny. Locally windy this morning. High 11-14° 0% POP 130° at 13 knots -0.8°/1000'

no cloudbase
Eagle Report - we headed up to Eagle Launch with 7 pilots and everyone had fun flights, with just a little lift on the way out. Perfect launch conditions with 10 km winds straight in, because we were above the inversion layer. Tail winds lower helped get everyone out to the LZ.

Colleen had her first ever Eagle Launch to Eagle Ranch flight overflying Eagle Ranch, the FlyBC designated landing zone at 200 meters.

Everyone else landed in from of the Sasquatch Inn on the beach, except for Daisy who did her first XC flight landing on the beach on the south side of the river :-)

Woodside Report - after we reassembled the troops and debriefed the Eagle Flights, we headed up Woodside for a few more flights in mild conditions, some new pilots to the area got four flights off Woodside today. We managed just the last flight at 3:30 pm before the sun started to set. Even I was able to fly despite catabatic winds off launch, bagging a beautiful sled ride as the sun set behind Sumas Mountain (and me with no camera).

Sumas Report - some pilots were transmitting on 146.415 letting us know the conditions and although Duncan flew it sounds like the upper level wind foreast was off as the winds were more northerly at the PG launch. I overheard Dunacn coaching someone on the radio about launching at the HG ramp, and then they were hanging in a tree (not sure who it weas but they were okay). They later drove down unhurt. Other reports came from pilots later saying the winds had switched to tail at the PG launch (this really is a site you want to be off before 11:00 am in the winter as the sun leaves the slope much sooner).

McGuire Report - (corrected report) I talked to Ivan T as he flew off McGuire, we had switched to 146.46 because the other channel had the Sumas Incident and he overheard us talking. He had flown a mini XC flight and was unsure whether he was going to make it to Eddie's LZ. He was having a beautiful flight and even caught some thermals that took him above launch.

Light east winds and foggy in Vancouver all day. Many flights cancelled at YVR due to visibility, didn't get any Fraser Valley pg pilot reports however, maybe Saturday will be a good day?

Sunny skies and a beautiful sunset on the West Coast! It was raining and snowy in Calgary with strong North Winds, everybody there is planning trips south.

November 25 Blanchard

No pireps but inflow winds all afternoon looked promising.

November 24 Sumas in the AM, Woodside after 2:00 PM Sunny but dress warm. High 11° 0% POP 110° at 11 knots; then light and variable after 2100 GMT -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
2000 m/6200' Sumas Report - about a dozen pilots flew Sumas in the morning, Nicole had 30 minutes while others just logged sled rides. Some logistics around the key need to be sorted out but call Rob S for details (604-854-0412).

Woodside Report - the Sumas pilots and some other new pilots showed up at Woodside and had sled rides with the occasional thermal to climb in. Jan Karnik flew his first paramotor flight, after a few tries he got off and flew for about 15 minutes with an interesting landing.

We had four uninvited pilots land at Eagle Ranch and they now know where to land and who to pay to get a Riverside Landing Pass - we may institute our own outlanding fee to stop uninvited pilots from dropping in. Please brief new pilots on Riverside, otherwise they just follow everyone else into Eagle Ranch and there won't be any Riverside Revenue to persuade Duncan's to keep leasing it to the WCSC - Jim.

Jeremie's Torrie Report - after 5 days of high pressure, the wait pays off. Around 11:30 the water looked choppy and cloud cover had kept things cool. Being the eager kid I am I layed out in light conditions ,much to the amusement of a few locals. Within 3 minutes though, the long overdue onshore breeze kicked in and off I went. Within 10 minutes there were 15 other pilots in the air including a hangie. By the end of the day I'd had about two hours in the air with a handful of top landings. Another day of soaring and the 26 hour drive will have payed off I reckon - Jeremy H.
November 23 Ashcroft or Savona Sunny but dress warm. High 5° 0% POP light and variable -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
2000 m/6200' Savona Report - Cornwall was out due to strong NW flow aloft so we headed to Savona to try Deadman's or the Dump. It was north at launch but thermal cycles cancelled out the prevailing wind for 2-3 minutes at a time so I flew to test the air for Rusty. After I launched it was clear that this wasn't too good for students so they drove down as I soared along the ridge in leeside lift. As I flew over the Crash Pad, I saw the wind had picked up quite strong so I elected to land at the International LZ. It was sinky all the way to the International but I made it all the way to the road and landed in 30 km winds.

We then drove back to Ashcroft so Rusty could fly off Coyote, a 700 foot hill behind Ashcroft Manor - at least he got a flight!
November 22 Sumas in the PM Foggy in the morning. High 12° 40% POP 100° at 18 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
1000 m/3200' Prevost Report (Vanc. Island) - (Hey, took the day off and got a bit of a flying fix. Jayson, Analise and I got sledders at Prevost. Looks like it was better just before we launched (around 2:00 pm, and it looked like launch was well over the inversion). Tomorrow we plan to be on launch by about 11:00 - Bruce McG.

November 21 Woodside in the PM Cloudy with sunny periods and 60 percent chance of showers in the evening. High 13° 20% POP 200° at 7 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
650 m/2400' Torrey Pines Report (CA) - Hey Jim, hope things in the frozen north are good, I'm down in San Diego waiting for the weather to improve. So far its been a few sledders to the beach at Torrey and lots of lying on the beach in 25C weather. See you soon, don't forget to send me those pictures you have of me. - Jeremy ; )

November 20 Woodside in the PM Cloudy with sunny periods and 60 percent chance of showers in the morning. High 13° 60% POP 200° at 7 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
650 m/2400' No pireps received, is anyone even trying to fly?

November 18-19 Stay Home Occasional Rain showers. Becoming windy in the afternoon. High 12° 100% POP 260° at 25 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
350 m/1100' Lots of rain :-(

November 17 Little Nic for the morning Occasional Rain showers. Becoming windy in the afternoon. High 12° 70% POP 260° at 14 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
350 m/1100' Little Nick Non-Flying Report - I borrowed a chainsaw and went out to Little Nick to do some work on the road Sunday morning. It was dry and ridge soarable most of the morning, but I was alone and glider-less. After 1 pm it started raining a lot and I gave up working after getting twine caught in the chainsaw for the second time. Hopefully the cross ditches that they are putting in next week aren't too deep or plentiful. BTW drive time to launch is 30 minutes (going relatively slow) - Rob S.

November 16 Whidbey may be possible late afternoon Rain showers. High 12° 70% POP 190° at 32 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
800 m/2600' Rain and wind at Woodside all day, did anyone try Whidbey??

November 12-15 Stay Home Cloudy, heavy rain showers. High 12° 100% POP 180° at 32 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
200 m/600' We are paying for the dry fall, Mother Nature always makes up for it.

November 11 Stay Home Cloudy, heavy rain showers. High 9° 100% POP 220° at 15 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
200 m/600' Ugggghhhh! Rain sucks!

November 10 Woodside, Lil Nick Cloudy, occasional showers. High 11° 40% POP 180° at 14 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
800 m/2600' Motoring Report - we started the motors to warm them up, filled the tanks and then the rain started coming down so we were denied. It rained hard all afternoon after that :-(
November 9 Stay Home for a few days Periods of rain. More fronts on the way from the coast. High 12° 100% POP 180° at 12 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
600 m/2300' Woodside Report - Rob S was up at launch working when he called to ask where everyone was because the sun came out and there was a soarable breeze at launch, I was in Chilliwack and saw the clouds open up. By the time I arrived at Eagle Ranch Rob was on the ground, he got 50 meters above launch but when he explored how far out the lift band extended, he start to sink and couldn't find it again. It almost sounded like it was thermic - Jim

November 8 Stay Home for a few days Periods of rain. Windy at times. High 12° 100% POP 190° at 22 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
600 m/2300' Woodside Report - there was one flyable period for an hour, but the grass was wet and the winds too light to saor, despite the upper level forecast for strong winds.

November 7 Stay Home for a few days Periods of rain. Windy at times. High 12° 100% POP 180° at 36 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
600 m/2300' Woodside Report - I joked with Ian J on the way out that it was flyable in the Valley, but he just scoffed because it was howling in Richmond. As I arrived at the Ranch to do some carpentry on the deck, launch was in the clear and the winds were calm, no pilots were in the air though - Jim

November 6 Stay Home for a few days Periods of rain. Windy at times. High 12° 100% POP 190° at 26 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
600 m/2300' Rain all day, windy and wet. Same outlook for 5 days. Even a road trip looks unlikely if the weather isn't drier, as it is raining in Kamloops too.

November 5 Woodside is a possibility Cloudy. High 12° 0% POP 160° at 15 knots -2.0°/1000'
(standard lapse rate)
1100 m/3500' Woodside Report - Bev, Norm and Jeremy flew Woodside in light winds (both at launch and in the Eagle Ranch LZ), 2 flights before the rains came in. We had a great dry run of weather to this point but it looks like 6 days of rain is upon us. Road Trip to Saddle or Savona anyone??

November 4 Sumas Sunny. High 12° 0% POP 150° at 9 knots -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
2400 m/7700' Woodside Report - it was blowing over the back all day, Sumas looked flyable when I passed under the launch at 1:30 pm, but no pilots were in the air.

Grouse Report - Grouse was beautiful today. Mild, with light and variable conditions. Launched late in the afternoon into golden sun for an extended sledder with very light lift over the cliffs and at the cut. Squeaked in 20 minutes before the high cloud moved in - Ian M.
November 3 Deroche, Woodside later Sunny. Light winds. High 12° 0% POP light and variable -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
2400 m/7700' Deroche Report - we arrived at launch at 11:00 am and the first flight off launch by Colleen was a bit bumpy, followed by Nicole doing the same gyrations. But it smoothed out on the way out so Colleen recommended that a few senior students to fly while some just kited their wings into the trees :-) No rips, so Fred doesn't get a report just a few good pictures for next years scrapbook. We eventually got 6 pilots off Deroche before heading to Woodside. Woodside was good for sled rides and advanced paramotor maneuvers clinics . . . right Nicole??

November 2 Woodside, Bridal Upper Sunny. Light winds. High 12° 0% POP light and variable -1.5°/1000'
(inverted lapse rate)
2400 m/7700' Woodside Report - we had a great safeflying day at Woodside. Colleen was "Queen of the Sky" with 29 minutes. Students logged 3-4 flights each with great launch cycles and no headwind in the air so they reached Eagle Ranch with 0ver 300 meters to do 360s and other maneuvers. Estimated 20 pilots were out yesterday despite the stable conditions.

November 1 Sumas Sunny. Northeast outflow winds. High 12° 0% POP 120° at 7 knots -2.0°/1000'
(stable lapse rate)
2400 m/7700' It was definitely flyable at Woodside later, light inflow winds but we were working on the deck.

(stable lapse rate)
