 Agassiz BC Mainly sunny. Becoming windy this afternoon. High 30. UV index 8 or very high. It was getting windy but the thermals were soft and smooth as opposed to the previous 2 days. Denis & I thermalled near the South Knoll for some time getting video footage for our two passengers before I headed out fairly high and I needed all the altitude we had getting out to the Ranch. We crossed the ridge high but all the way across Duncan's field it was sinky and windy. A few thermals over the Maple Tree got us into the Ranch and there were waves of wind going across the corn from the SE, should be a nice landing but no . . . as we went on final the winds switched to NW and we got popped up in a thermal to come crashing down hard on our butts (good thing HPAC mandates airbags for passengers!) No damage but it was a fast landing! Denis came in after us and had a better landing, but then Norm was 10 minutes later and ended up on his butt too. This often happens right after the hay is baled, before the grass has a chance to shield the sun from the LZ. After that it just got windier and windier, last night at 8 pm it was gusting up to +30 kph from the SW on launch. No reports from Bridal, but an un-named pilot was plucked from some trees in Squamish. Tip of the Day: If you are standing on the Chief and see kite-boarders cruising Howe Sound . . . hike down!

| Agassiz BC A mix of sun and cloud. 60 percent chance of showers early in the morning. Risk of thunderstorms near Hope late in the afternoon. Risk of a thunderstorm early in the morning. High 30. UV index 8 or very high. So I decided to try out the new Ozone Rapido 13 speed wing! I went up with visiting pilot Marty from Kelowna and set up the Rapido (it doesn't take long to setup, not much there!). I got a puff of a cycle and I was off and kicking the trees below launch as I slalomed through them. Something told me I could make the Ranch in light winds (actually Riverside would not work as I had tandems), so I headed that way but the line was sinky so I followed the highway and got some bumps but when I crossed the ridge, it looked dubious that I would cross Chimp Creek so I bailed to the HG LZ. I came out of my final turn at about 60 kph, similar to a HG landing and when I flared the Rapido actually stalled and stopped me completely so I did not have to run! Derek came to grab me as I had tandems to do with a group of 3 nice folks from Vancouver. Denis, Derek & I were the pilots and Bev did one round of driving for us. Unfortunately, the new fill on the spur road has not settled so it is not 2WD friendly and I got the Van stuck a few times before leaving it on the road and we hiked in. Lame launch cycles for Denis but after he left it started coming in nicely and Derek & I were off fast. Crappy inverted lift, very punchy but we managed a few turns and made it out with lots of altitude. I had a nice fast landing and my passenger "ran like a Rockstar"! After that it blew out and there were no more flights at Woodside, but Bridal delivered nice soaring later. Even after 7 pm, we still had gusts to 40 kph from the SW. 6-28-15

We did one student round with Allan and his son at 1030 am, and raced back up for another student round and the tandem who turned out to be an 11 year old girl who got the tandem as a Birthday Gift from Mom. She was a slight 70 pound package that was all smiles! We had to wait for cycles on the last round with Allan & Steve and also with the tandem for Natalie. We had a nice launch and we were off soaring in front of launch and had no problem penetrating. Colleen took some time off from her gardening to guide Allan in and he had a nice soft landing.
I had opened the trims to compensate for the light loading and when I closed them we were going backwards, so back to open. I basically backed into Eagle Ranch from the railway tracks and through the rotor and thermals to land on our feet at the side of the Training Hill where Grandpa was shooting with his camera. Some nice tip tucks and frontals along the way in, but there was nothing to do but keep the Sora inflated. After that Kevin called on the phone to say they were blown out and it was +30 kph on launch. Must have been the rain cells on Bridal that triggered the winds. We sent everyone home, and later Derek arrived and we headed up as I had to test fly the Rapido 13, but as we crested the hill we met up with Eric who offered up his service to flatten ou the road in to launch with his farm tractor. So I stayed and helped Eric while Derek & Frank went to launch. After 15 minutes of moving fill and back-blading it, the road looks much better at the entrance.

Thanks for Denis, Kevin, Andrei and Joe for keeping the Tandemonium Machine running. We had some really nice soaring flights despite the inversion layers. And some great passengers who helped us at launch & landing.

We got 2 rounds of flights in before it got a bit thermic in the LZ, recently Duncan's mowed and so did we to get the sparse hay off the ground before it died due to lack of rain. Hence, the ground is heating up more than normal. Joe & Anton flew later and had some good flying, I think Joe got 2 hours?

| Agassiz BC Mainly sunny. High 28. UV index 8 or very high. Dimas has graduated with over 30 flights and he flew with Colleen last night and did his first Harvest Run after climbing out on the South Knoll.
We did not go up until 7 pm for the last round due to some strong gusts on launch in the afternoon, recorded on the weather station.

| Agassiz BC Mainly cloudy. 40 percent chance of showers late this afternoon. High 24. UV index 6 or high. We had a really good morning with Alan & Dimas getting 3 flights in before noon in great conditions. Alan is now up to 7 solos in total. Martin N was out and test flying a Buzz Z4 that was being repaired and he logged 2 hours before coming out to the Ranch and getting parked for some time. Good time for the students to go kiting while I had a rare nap. We waited for a round of tandems around 4 pm, but they did not arrive until 6 pm, good thing as it was quite strong on launch til then. Denis & I took Dustin & Tamay tandem and the conditions were amazing, good soaring at the South Knoll. I did a few top-landing passes to test out the air at launch.
Joe drove down to retrieve us, thanks for that! We raced back up and took the last tandems just at sunset and we had a sleddy but it was nice for them too, except for the attack mosquitoes late at night. 6-23-15

Dimas logged two flights including his graduation flight where he launched himself as I flew around on a tandem, and had a spicy landing as the thermals started kicking off in the Valley. New student Alan logged one flight, and his launch was so poorly executed that I had to spend some time on the training hill to get him back to flying form. Thank goodness the new SupAir Eona gliders are so forgiving! The first group of 7 tandems arrived at 11 am and by the time they were signed up and made the bathroom rounds it was noon but the conditions stayed good for the first 4 tandems, landing at the Ranch. An un-named tandem pilot had some good footage of their landing approach over the corn. Will they make it in to the circle?
Almost made it! Nope! Second tandem corn-husker of the season . . . and I am sure it won't be the last!
I was planning to drive so I gave Al the Magnum II - 38 as his passenger was very light. He climbed out easily at the South Knoll and the plan was to fly to Harvest as the winds in the valley were picking up.
Justin K arrived with his staff and I took Spencer tandem on the Gin Safari, and we had a nice launch and started to climb out fast in front of launch. Norm had launched before me on his Alpina2 going up everywhere he pointed. We waited for 20 minutes for Justin to launch with Maria and then headed over the back too after watching Josh & Rod trying to land at the Ranch for 15 minutes (yes a bit thermic). We regrouped and took one last set of tandems with Justin and at the end of the day we had completed 12 tandems. It never calmed down enough for student flights (<20 kph) even after 7 pm, se we called the day and sent them home. 6-22-15

UV index 7 or high I ballasted Derek & Helen off and Etienne was getting ready to fly solo and he had a few failed attempts at launching as it got stronger and he stood down to let me & Matthew launch on the tandem, and it was pretty strong even in the lulls and Matthew was not trying very hard, but after the second try we got off and went straight up and we stayed above launch for 20 minutes. Derek followed Nathaniel out to the Ranch ahead of us after getting really high with Helen, and I told Dimas to follow Derek to wherever he went and they all got in to the Ranch fine, although Dimas came in a bit low. We were up high halfway out to the Ranch when I saw a dust-storm bust off in a field near Little Mountain and it looked very strong on the ground there so I bailed over the back to Harvest Market LZ, and we arrived there low and we got blown back into the middle of the field so I estimate it was +35 kph on the ground. Not as thermic as Martin reported yesterday but it has recently been hayed and there are lots of dirt showing to trigger thermals for sure. It was clearly too strong for students after this so we went to lunch and then I took Nathaniel, Dimas & Alan to Mission to kite and practice as it looked calmer there. We had a good session and everyone knows how to reverse launch with style now! We got back to the Ranch at 6 pm, and it was still howling at Woodside so we called it a night. 6-21-15

| Agassiz BC Sunny. Becoming a mix of sun and cloud this morning. Becoming windy this afternoon. High 22. UV index 7 or high. We went back up at 1130 am, with a set of tandems and the students and we had nice reversible launch cycles and it all looked good until we got the report from Derek that it was rough in our field and over Duncan's too. Dimas was already in the air and when he hit the valley wind layer, he was parked so I suggest a landing at the HG field and he had a nice touchdown. One of the tandem passengers rolled over on her ankle during the landing and Colleen was there to apply first aid. We suspended flights with the students and they went kiting in the LZ instead. We went to Klaus & Monica's for a BBQ and heard that Alex & Nicole had decided to go hiking at Bridal and play golf due to the wind there. It was blowing +30 kph from the SW and Klaus' windmill was humming along. Then magically at 8 pm the winds switched to strong outflow? Same at Woodside, blowing down at launch? Weird day but we got a few flights in. 6-19-15

Some folks were kiting their new gliders at the Landing Circle but it was difficult, good thing they had a Gin Atlas & Ozone Buzz Z4 (easy launchers). I was busy in Agassiz sorting out tires for the Van as the new ones I bought a month ago were already bald in 1500 kms?? Modern Tire replaced them with a new set that hopefully will last the season. And the Atlas also had a flat tire/slow leak that needed repairing. Woodside is hard on tires & vehicles. Later in the day it was so windy that the webcam on top was weaving despite being on a 8" birch tree. The weather station was reporting a steady 38 kph from the SW. Filip wrote his P-2 exam and he is up to 21 flights after 7 days and flying well, he should be signed off in a day with good weather. 6-17-15

| Agassiz BC Cloudy. Becoming a mix of sun and cloud near noon. High 22. UV index 6 or high. We mananged to get two student rounds in and the last flight was pretty windy down low as Denis almost made the Ranch on a tandem flight. I was parked to the north with Joel on tandem and we had to work the HG LZ ridge to get altitude before coming in over the goalpost trees slowly. Al was launching the students before I was down but they did fine. Tommy was on his new Gin Atlas and had lots of height, Filip is on his new Swift and loaded right up to the top of 90 kgs, and Sean got some nice lift at launch before heading out and they all made it to the Ranch . . . very slowly even backwards at times. Al flew out on his Peak 3 and it was even slow for him at times, so student flying was done til later. We headed up with 3 tandems at 2 pm, and it was launchable so we planned a Harvest Run (the owner now wants us to refer to the field as "Albert's Airstrip"). Denis launched first, in a lull. Al launched his first commercial tandem after getting signed off and had a nice launch and they got plucked and climbed fast. Over to the South Knoll they both played but were not getting up? Odd it was windy enough for them to be parked but little ridge lift was happening and even fewer thermals. My passenger was very afraid, and not much help as she fell down a few times as I kited up the Sora Tandem. Filip was holding the glider down so I could not ask for ballast but we eventually got enough of a lull to kite the glider up and stabilze it as we got plucked. The launch and the ramp became very small as we went straight up! By now Denis & Al had bailed east and low, and they called in at the Dykes LZ. Nicole and I climbed out nicely at the South Knoll and she finally relaxed as we got into the air. Climbs were ratty and it was windy but we were climbing. We got above launch easily and after 15 minutes we headed to Albert's Airstrip and he was haying so it was a bit thermic there but we had a soft touchdown with no dragging as the truck arrived to retrieve us. We waited until 7 pm to go back up and it was just Tommy & Filip left and they had nice flights with Tommy grabbing the glassoff!

Tommy & Filip were in the launch slot and Tommy got away clean on the Atlas S and he got some nice lift although it got bumpy at the ridgeline but he made a nice approach and landed near the circle going sideways as he did not complete his final leg. Filip launched about 15 minutes later as we waited for straight cycles and it got even windier in the air, and he almost made the Ranch landing just the other side of Chimp Creek. Burt is $20 richer today! It was clearly too strong for Zooey & Tien for their first solos so I sent them home to return early Wednesday to try again. I sent the students out to kite with Denis as drove to Vancouver for errands. Later in the day I saw Denis launch Filip at around 6:30 pm as it calmed down; and right after that Denis, Derek, Kevin & Andrei took a group of Birthday Tandems out for a sunset flight that lasted 45 minutes and the clients were exstatic! I should stay away more often, things get done with a little planning. 6-15-15

| Agassiz BC Mainly sunny. High 30. UV index 6 or high. Everyone did 4-5 runs and they all looked super and Filip has mastered his reverse launch. We arrived at Eagle Ranch to find eager tandem passengers and Denis & Derek ready to fly them as I managed the students. Up on launch it was light to no wind and we had to wait for cycles but it was early. Denis was off first, followed by Derek. Then we got Tommy & Filip ready. The others went to lunch as they were waiting for tandems yet again today to prepare for their solo flights. It was a sled ride for everyone on this round, but as Filip got ready it was getting stronger for him to practice reverse launches. He got off with a perfect one too! Back on launch with Zooey & Tien at 1:30 pm, as Denis & Derek took them for a nice student tandem. Some soaring before letting them take over to do the approach. It was much stronger now as Tommy went off first followed by Filip, and as I drove down I could see Filip still above launch so I could watch him land from the Ranch as I arrived. It was getting much windier, odd as the various wind forecasting tools all showed light winds under 5 knots. We had one last set of tandems to do, so I sent Zooey & Tien out to the training hill with the Eona S to practice by themselves as it was far too windy for their solos. Only Tommy came up this round and he gladly stood down as the tandems got ready. Gusts to 28 kph but straight in required careful lull timing and I ballasted Denis off first with a big guy to test the air, and they were soaring up high as Martin N launched.
It never calmed down untl wel past sunset so the day was done, but it was very successful with 3 tandems rounds and lots of student learning too. Reports came in from the Okanogan that it was good in Lumby and Rod found our Oyama Launch and tested it out.

| Agassiz BC Mainly sunny. High 25. UV index 6 or high. The first flights were sinky and some of the pilots had to bail to Riverside, but then it got really good as Al climbed out around 2 pm. Our second round of tandems got really high with Denis & Derek piloting a nice couple from New Jersey. I took new student Tien for a sweet tandem at around 3:30 pm, and we climbed to 1200 metres right away with a nice view of Harrison Lake to the north and it was smooth all the way up, as I gave him the controls. We were hungry and Colleen was driving down this round and we planned to meet at Kilby Park for sandwiches. No problem making the Kilby LZ and we even got to fly over the new camping spots they created this year.
Denis, Derek, Colleen & I took the 4 girls tandem and we had nice flights, too nice for Denis' passenger as she lost her lunch during the flight. The new reduced LZ footprint at Eagle Ranch is becoming very nice as the corn grows and reduces the thermic bumps mid-day.
XC Report - while we were flying Woodside with students and tandems, Al the Hammer had a nice flight to Blinch Mtn. and back to Green Hill (too bad he forgot to turn on his SPOT), and Peter had a nice flight at Bridal. X Contest scores here Mark T followed Al out to Dewdney and decided to head North & West of Mission and found himself back in Glen Valley near where he used to run his HG School near Fort Langley.

| Agassiz BC Mainly sunny. High 22. UV index 6 or high. I did see Cocoa get some lift over the bailout swamp and highway, so we were hopeful. We took off after one duff when Sam fogot to keep running, and we were soon above launch in a strong core!
We headed back up with the second group of tandems at 1230 pm, and Cocoa got to fly again but I had Jeremy drive down after a few aborts because he was not feeling the wing and it was getting gusty.
We flew around for 30 minutes landing very fast in the circle at the Ranch, in strong south winds but we had a very fast approach on final but my passenger - an ex-skydiver with the military ran it out nicely! Back up on launch at 300 pm, it was getting very strong. Carlos C was here for a tandem/instructor course and he took Jeremy tandem to show him how to thermal, and they were up for over an hour on Carlos' Mag2 Lite. Tonya had top-landed solo to fly a tandem for us so we brought Colleen's Magnum 38 up and she took off before us in a strong cyle that plucked them off the ground. Denis went next and they were both above launch, while i clipped in with the lightest passenger and no ballaster as it got stronger. We had to wait for a lull and we were off and climbing with the others, when I lost sight of Denis, who had flown to Harvest when his passenger was feeling dizzy. I was climbing on the South Knoll when I saw Tonya also landing there at Harvest. Carlos & I climbed together at the South Knoll, over Launch, over to the North and then I headed to Harvest to join the others with Carlos following us. Nice landing conditions at Harvest,but my passenger got dragged to her knees when I brought the wing down. Grass stains are kewl. We were finished flying but a group went up to Woodside and waited a long time and it never died down. Jonathon's Bridal Report - I went to Bridal for the first time after getting signed off and my 26th flight got me 3 hours of airtime, going all the way to Elk Mtn and back to launch where I top-landed to drive down - Jon. By 2 pm the winds abated and it looked very flyable, but I had already cancelled the tandems and we had Alastair & Jim O here for recert courses and we could have pulled it of easily, but instead we just went solo flying. Jim launched first and then Alastair and they found some light soaring in front of launch but were soon dropping fast as the wind on launch switched to North, and I had to wait for a cycle. Meanwhile the boys were setting up a weird north wind approach at Eagle Ranch.
I flew out as I got lower and it was not rough but weird feeling mushy air over the Construction Zone, and then I was parked in +25 kph North Wind right over the Ranch. North winds are very smooth at our LZ, and it was easy to pin up against the trees to set up the approach. I toyed with trying the new Pro Circle spot but it doesn't work in North Wind as you have to approach over the firepit. So I landed at the training hill. Nice kiting winds too after landing. Not long after packing up, the winds were back to the normal SE flow. I think the cell dropping rain on Hemlock while we were flying caused the north winds, which stopped right after the cell cleared away. 6-11-15

I had a tandem at noon with Nex and he is interested in paragliding even more after we thermalled in front of launch for 30 minutes before heading out into weird air over the valley (damn inversions). I left Josh & Scott on launch and I guess they waited too long because Scott said he was having inflation issues as it got stronger (more weirdness in the air?) Josh took off and apparently Scott got frustrated with the reverse problem and did a forward launch and flew off with a lineover or cravatte, and stalled his wing into the trees to the south of launch trying to clear the cravatte.
I left at 3 pm for the city and they had it all out of the trees by 6 pm. An interesting story from a hiker that was doing a Pemby route a few days ago and saw a paraglider throw his reserve Clubtread Forum 6-8-15

When we retrieved everyone and got back on top at 3 pm it was getting very strong and Al had to bag his tandem in the wind shadow. We went back up at 8 pm, and we got Scott off on his Ozone Zero 17, Jason off on our demo Ozone Zero 17 and Joe & Josh flew normal wings and they got blown back to Harvest Market going about 80 kph downwind. Obviously, I did not launch any students on this round.

The students went kiting and we did one more tandem at 230 pm, with Denis taking a trip to Harvest Market. One of our Mexico students, Scott from TO, arrived and was trying out his new Ozone Octane FLX he bought from Bulgaria. He had a few nice flights landing at the Dyke after 3 pm.

We spent the morning in the Barn doing Ground School, before heading to the Eagle Ranch training hill. Sean had a beginning advantage as he had spent 6 days kiting with Alex R at Vanier, Garry Point and other locales. But Filip showed he was a natural with perfect form on the training hill. Filip said he did not want a tandem, and Sean is a commercial pilot so off to Woodside Launch we went. Perfect inflow cycles at noon and both guys had great launches and were soon above lanch on their first solos, not rough just lofty conditions that got them out to the Ranch at the height of launch. Both had really nice approaches over Duncan's Maple Tree and good landings too. We regrouped and headed back up but it was getting stronger and we got Sean off with a perfect reverse launch (thanks Alex), and as we got Filip ready it blew out for students. Filip had to sit out until around 6 pm when it calmed down. In the meantime, Denis took one tandem and he climbed high over launch before heading straight out to the Ranch . . . yes, another "puker" meant his flight got cut short. My passenger was scared and of little help in launching, so I basically carried her off the mountain (but she did not "puke").
Bridal Report - Guy took Mourad (a transfer student from our school), to Bridal after he flew two flights at Woodside. Last report was that Mourad got 2.5 hours soaring at Bridal, good work! 6-3-15

After 4 hours of ground school and video training, we adjourned for lunch and then headed out to the FlyBC Training Hill and Glen was doing very well learning forward & reverse launches and he had no failed attempts even with a cros-wind . . . the guy is a natural! We did not get as much rain as forecasted, but you could see the cells hitting Sasquatch & Bridal all around us. The corn is growing fast and we have created a new ProCircle in close to the firepit that will make for interesting landings. We are moving a webcam to that side of the firepit to showcase the area. 6-1-15

We managed 5 rounds with the students and the last round had Nathaniel having to do a hard run to get off in a light cycle right after Denis launched tandem. Denis had a good day doing 5 tandems for us, and Derek did 2 tandems as well. We had 8 tandems all day and they were not that long but Denis & Derek managed to get above launch nicely on one round mid-day. Our students are doing awesome, especially Tyler who launched with the VOX function on his radio turned on so he heard nothing but had a perfect approach & landing (due to good preparation in the ground school).
