Sun Peaks Forecast Woodside Forecast: Clearing this afternoon. High 6. UV index 1 or low. 040° @ 10 kph after 1 pm 800 metres But the local "Desperado Team" led by Derek has been getting some flights in. Mostly "sleddies" in light outflow conditions this month but Derek, Martin, Andrei, Bev and Norm have been out several times and most flew. Today (January 16) was one of such days but this time it was lifty with some strong SW winds at launch. Derek had to remove a few fallen trees at the 3 km mark and others had hiked from there. The carpets were all torn up due to last week's windstorm but Tonya and others had repaired it pretty well by the time Derek's truck load had arrived on top. Martin launched first, followed by Derek and Claudia and later Andrei and Norm. Bev drove for the team. Apparently it was quite lifty and they could cloudsurf up the front of the growing CU. Claudia as usual got some great shots of the flying action. It is going to be hard to identify the pilots involved as Derek and Martin have new Ozone Swift 5 gliders and I can't remember what they ordered? It was lifty for their entire 1:41 flights and they arrived at FlyBC Eagle Ranch at 600 metres to land in smooth conditions. Derek said it was not even that cold in the air. Spring is just around the corner! 12-25-2020 to 12-27-2020

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Fog dissipating this morning then mainly sunny. High plus 5. UV index 1 or low. 040° @ 15 kph after 1 pm 800 metres But lots of hikers and pilots were up on Elk social distancing and flying. Peter & Claudia were the early Elk birds today and had nice cycles. Someone caught Peter flying off and posted a video on Facebook. Linda's first Elk flight and she had a brilliant takeoff on her Ozone Geo 4! Long run cause it was NE up there too. This is Dennie's setup area, and even though it is quite steep he had to do a long run. 12-8-2020 to 12-11-2020

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Sunny. Windy near Agassiz this morning and early this afternoon. High 11. UV index 2 or low. 040° @ 25 kph after 1 pm 800 metres I am still hurting from my rotator cuff injury from last month construction projects so I wimped out at the 4 kms mark. Again nice snow on the groomed trails. 12-5-2020

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Sunny. Windy near Agassiz this morning and early this afternoon. High 11. UV index 2 or low. 040° @ 25 kph after 1 pm 800 metres Colleen and I went skiing instead and the snow was pretty good with just a few grass spots near the bottom of the runs. We tried to make an appointment with the Ski Area Manager but they are COVID-careful even to make a meeting on the ski runs? 12-4-2020

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: Mainly sunny. Increasing cloudiness near noon. High 9. UV index 1 or low. 040° @ 5 kph after 1 pm 800 metres Light tail wind launches but Bev, Dennie, Derek and Martin N all flew. 13 minutes was the longest flight. Thanks to Normando for driving. Mexico Report - Guy & Gord are flying around Tenancingo and having great XC flights. Here is Gord flying his Ozone Swift 5 ML which is being traded in on his return to Canada (after a 14 day quarantine to get rid of the Wuhan Flu). No lockdowns in eastern Mexico apparently? 12-3-2020

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: A mix of sun and cloud. High 8. UV index 1 or low. 040° @ 30 kph after 1 pm 800 metres The road has been seriously cross-ditched and the Can Am Defender was bottoming out despite going through the ditches diagonally. We made it to about the 3 km mark and then hit snow. Someone had tried to get up in a truck and chewed up the snow nicely til they got stuck and that is where we turned around. If we had snow boots on we could have hiked in the remaining 1.5 kms but we were not prepared for the snow. The aspect of this site is NE so any snow stays for the winter as it is always in the shade and high altitude so the freezing level never gets above thaw point for long enough during the day. You need a good high clearance 4x4 truck to get up to even the 3 km mark as the logging company really screwed the road up. 12-1-2020

| Woodside Forecast Woodside Forecast: RaA mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of showers. High 8. UV index 1 or low. 040° @ 20 kph after 1 pm 800 metres Scott as always was fast and had the wing on the ground in 30 minutes for Norm and I to sort out and bag up for the hike out. We took the wing up to launch and sorted the lines and found one small tear near an A attach point and a broken stabilo line (all from the tree landing). Thank to Scott, Bev and Norm for sorting it out. We had only one puff up the front of launch but otherwise it was all outflow so no one flew down. |
