| Guadalajara Mexico Sunshine and a few clouds. High 26C. Winds light and variable. We got there a bit late at 1 pm, and waited for Karen to have breakfast at La Ceja before heading to the main launch. Stefan was in the air when we arrived on my loaner Delta 2 and he top-landed to receive the new one. Normando had set up and tried a few inflations and almost ended up in the bushes below launch when he aborted attempt #1. It was light and almost over the back by now. He gave up and bagged his delta 2 and Karen got ready and had to wait for a cycle and she did a forward on her new Delta 2 and was out in the house thermal where she climbed out to 2800 metres as we drove down. We stopped at Pemex to fuel up and Karen was above the gas station at 3000 metres heading north. We encouraged her to keep going, as we drove north on the Libramento. At the cross roads that takes us to the Cuota, Karen hit some big sink and I suggested heading out over the flats to the Microwave towers in the mid-valley. She was getting low and disappeared from our view as we drove east and we thought she had landed. When we got to the expected LZ she was still in the air and got a good climb back to 3000 metres! This is the point that many pilots bomb out but Karen kept going east. At the ridge that goes north to San Marcos, Normando suggested to stay there and keep climbing under the big CUs until she had Lake Chapala on glide. Not much radi chat as she had no push-to-talk and had to grab for her radio to talk so we had to keep her in visual contact.
I dropped Normando off at the hotel and then left instructions to call when she arrived, and we headed east to home when I saw an Ozone bag on top of a stome fence below El Chante Launch. I stopped and saw Karen's head pop up.

| Agassiz BC A few showers ending this morning then cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers this afternoon. Rain beginning late this afternoon. High 6. I was too busy to do the Site of the Day updates but there was not much to report locally due to the weather. Bunkhouse reno was finished in time and the new north facing bedroom was ready for us on Christmas Eve after a year of hard work and much appreciated help from Alan D, Martin N and Aaron. Christmas Day Flight Report - Woodside was looking rainy for the holidays but one brave desperado Andrei flew Woodside on Christmas Day between showers. 12/22/14

| Agassiz BC Mainly cloudy. 30 percent chance of showers this afternoon. High plus 5. Cross Country reports big records falling in OZ. And one was on an Ozone M6! Normando Report - Normando reported making it halfway to San Marcos today from Tapalpa, requiring a bus anbd a hitchhike back to the truck on launch. I guess he should have done an "out & return" and top landed! Sounds better than the rains here. Stefan was also flying with my Delta 2 L as his new wing is here at the Ranch. 12/16/14

| Agassiz BC A mix of sun & cloud. Temperature steady near 9. A few desperados showed up and I took a group up as I was searching for a Woodside Christmas tree. Andrei, Martin N, Gary P came up with me in the mighty Atlas and one by one they all grabbed a flight.
Camilo took Normando to Mazamitla for the first time and they had to scratch to get up and then fight to get out of the cloudsuck! mazamitla is a SW facing site about an hour from our hotel on the Mexico Tours .

| Agassiz BC Cloudy. 40 percent chance of showers this afternoon. Windy this morning. High 11. I took a break and jumped in the hottub around 1 pm, and was immediately pelted by 1/4" hail stones, and there was a thunderstom overhead. Our friends at Access Lake Chapala made this very nice video of Lake Chapala and the area from a drone. Not nearly as much fun as from a paraglider! 12/8/14

| Agassiz BC Cloudy. 40 percent chance of showers this afternoon. Windy this morning. High 11. Some folks have been asking for a NE facing launch and we have one at Horsefly on the back side of Sasquatch Mtn. We don't go up there much as it is a long drive and not student friendly but good for signed off pilots. 12/7/14

| Agassiz BC Mainly cloudy. High 9. Richard had a 2 hour ground handling session a month ago, but the weather has not been conducive for any training lately so we grabbed the chance to get out today. We started on Cherry Hill but it was too east to even try so we headed to Nelson Park overlooking Hatzic Lake and had good strong conditions for reserve and forward launching. Richard got his feet well into the air many times, and Don did really well for his first day out too. We got reports from Martin N that it was blowing over the back at Woodside and he almost had to hike down after Derek left him on top. But a guy out for a Sunday drive with his girlfriend picked him up. Normando's Mexican Report - I was driving for Camilo as he had tandems to do at Tapalpa, and then I flew while he was doing his second tandem. We finally got some unstable conditions and I was able to make it to the Cross and 2850 metres. Enjoying the Sun and flying is a nice bonus - Normando. 12/5/14

| Agassiz BC Cloudy. 40 percent chance of drizzle this morning. Periods of rain beginning late this morning. Risk of freezing drizzle this morning. Windy. High plus 4. Might get everything done by Christmas as it doesn't look flyable around here for some time? Normando's Tapalpa, Mexico Report - its been warm and wonderful here in Mexico. Camilo has been doing tamdems daily so we have been going to Tapalpa soarable but can't break 2400 meters (400 over launch). Yes, today was exciting for Andres as got his first solo flight! 12/5/14

| Agassiz BC Cloudy. 40 percent chance of drizzle this morning. Periods of rain beginning late this morning. Risk of freezing drizzle this morning. Windy. High plus 4. I guess we are going to have to change the name? Geese Ranch . . . Swan Ranch . . . no . . . Eagle Ranch sounds better! 12/4/14

| Agassiz BC Mainly sunny. Windy. High plus 3. Rain starting pby late afternnon with freezing rain near Hope. Picture me driving the tractor back to Eric's farm in the rain and driving my quad back in the dark, quite a picture and hellishly wet. 12/3/14

| Agassiz BC Mainly sunny. Windy. High plus 3. Bunkhouse almost finished and ready for winter guests. Normando, Camilo & Andres were working on El Chante Launch and it looks pretty good and we have a key to get in there!

| Agassiz BC Sunny except cloudy near Hope this morning. Becoming windy near noon. High plus 2. San Marcos Mexico Report - Cam had to borrow our Gin Fuse 42 meter tandem to take a big guy tandem at San Marcos, looking good!
Velocity Paragliders USA, the paraglider arm of Black Hawk Paramotors, have anounced that their intermediate glider, the Elektra, is now certified EN B in the 26m size. Designed for both paragliding and paramotoring, Velocity say the Elektra has “exceptional passive safety and unmatched performance” and a 9.4:1 glide ratio. 12/1/14

| Agassiz BC A mix of sun and cloud. Windy near Hope this morning. High zero. Martin N, Degas & Mike were the only desperados flying today and Martin landed at the Ranch to grab a retrieve ride to get Degas' truck from the top. The loggers are working on the road cleaning out ditches and fixing the sections washed out with all the rain lately, so the road is top-notch now. Some other desperados were up on Sumas on Nov 30, and I just found this video of Amine hucking himself off on a speed wing from the HG launch. |
